Another GREAT weekend for SLIABH BEAGH

Irish Masters Gala UL Limerick

Last weekend two club swimmers competed in this gala. Patrick McKenna and Peter O’Hara swam in a variety of races and events and did their best to bring home good times and some silverware.  This was a very well attended gala with swimmers from all over clubs in Ireland present. Also present were teams and swimmers from UK, Denmark, Lithuania and Poland.

Our boys returned with the following results;  Patrick won the Gold in the 100 Freestyle in his age group overall. He got Gold in age group and Silver overall for the 200 Freestyle and Gold in his Age group and 3rd overall in 400 Freestyle.  Peter won Gold in his Age group and silver overall in 100 and 200 Butterfly. He also won Silver in his age group and was 4th overall in the 100 Freestyle and he won silver in the 400 Freestyle in his age group and was 5th overall in this event.

Well done to the two swimmers and next year we would hope to have more attending this gala from the club, male and female.

HAT TRICK for Aqua Sprinters

The Aqua sprint team headed to Newry last Saturday for the third gala of the Forest Feast League. This was always going to be a tough competition against Newry & Mourne, so all the stops had to be pulled out!  A very exciting and closely fought competition ensued with every race down to the final touch.  The team pulled together and came up trumps with a nail biting score of Newry & Mourne 199 – Sliabh Beagh 201.  Well done everyone!  Thanks as always to the coaches, co-ordinators and parents for their support and assistance.  The next gala will be a home gala on 6th April against Limavady. Swim Ulster Development 4 Gala.

This weekend we have 12 swimmers representing the club in Swim Ulster’s Development 4 gala in Ballymoney, Good Luck Everyone.

Sliabh Beagh Masters Distance Gala 31st March 2013

This gala is being organised by the club for all swimmers 16 years +, but particularly for swimmers 19 +. It is open to swimmers from Masters swim clubs, Triathlon Clubs and normal swim clubs. The unusual aspect of this gala is that it has only two (2) distances 800m and 1,500m. These are distances that are not often available to club swimmers to compete and test themselves in. It is also an opportunity for Triathon athletes to get some distance competition in before they head for the lakes and rivers later in the year.

Details of entry etc are on the club website www.sliabhbeaghasc.ie

Coaches Meeting

Last Tuesday the club coaches held a meeting to discuss many areas of club swimmer development and also the areas we need to develop in as coaches. It was agreed that we should attend the Swim Ireland coaches conference, which is being held from 5th – 7th April 2013 in Dublin. It was also identified that we need to spend more time on Developing Butterfly and Breaststroke technique.  We also discussed getting the message across to swimmers and parents on nutrition and having some method of monitoring intake that is non-threatening, but really puts the right foods, as the first option for all swimmers.

Questionnaire to swimmers

This document is important in the setting of goals for all Intermediate and Senior squad members. On completion each swimmer will have a one to one with the squad coach and possibly squad manager.
