Swim Ireland Coaching Conference
The 3 day conference took place in the Carlton Hotel and the Westmanstown Sports Centre in West Dublin from Friday the 5 April to the 7 April 2013. The main speakers were John Leonard Chief Executive of the American Swim Coaches Association and two other active coaches, Don Heidrey of Orinda Aquatics club in North California and Matt Keidritch, Head Coach of Tennessee State University swim team.
The presentations covered Club structure, club culture, swim technique, working off walls, Physiology, leadership and goal setting strategies. The presentations addressed the issues from a swimmers and coaches perspective. The attendance included people from USA, Estonia, Ukraine, UK, Lithuania, France, Poland and Ireland. In general the conference was very informative, high quality and putting into practice some of the ideas presented, should see an improvement in club culture, structure and in the performances in the pool.
The club were represented at the conference by Ita O’Hara, Dana Sheridan, Tomasz Saluda and Eamon O’Hara.
Masters Record
Peter O’Hara was awarded a Masters Record in the 200m Butterfly event after results were analysed by the Swim Ireland Masters Committee. He achieved the record in the Limerick Masters Gala on the 2 March 2013.
World Dance Championships
Club swimmer Emer Sheridan representing her club in the World Irish Dancing Championships held in Boston over the Easter did extremely well coming 8th overall in her class. There were 65 Competitors in her event. Well done Emer.
Forthcoming events in the pool
The club swimmers and coaches are now getting into championship mode as the Irish Long Course Championships are only around the corner on the 25-28 April 2013 in the NAC, Dublin. This is followed by a few important galas in which qualifying times may be achieved in different events. These galas are in Tallaght, Lisburn and Larne. Training will be sustained and tough in the next 3 months. It will see us returning to the Magherfelt 50m pool occasionally too. Check our competitions page for full details
So swimmers, head down, work on technique, believe in yourself and have no excuses.
Cake Sale
We are holding a cake & book sale in the Monaghan Shopping Centre this Saturday 13 April 2013. If you have any books please leave them into the pool this Thursday evening during training. All baked goods to be left into Shopping Centre by 12noon on Saturday 13th.
Fees
Final payment of fees are now due, payment can be made on or before Saturday 20 April 2013.
