Ulster Development Gala
Last Saturday a number of swimmers attended the Ulster Development Gala in Castlereagh, Belfast. This was the second of the series of Development galas. They are designed to provide a challenge for young swimmers, new swimmers and those seeking to get a time in their less favourite strokes and distances. The following did attend and did return improved times and the mood was very positive. Well done to Conor Comiskey, Matthew Comiskey, Emily Madden, Oran McGee, Niamh Collins, Megan McShane. The results of this gala are posted on the club notice board in Monaghan Leisure Centre.

Club Record Gala
This gala is being held in the pool on Saturday the 22/12/12 from 5 – 8 pm. All club swimmers will have an opportunity to swim in the specific gala record races or the alternate races that are more suitable for developing swimmers. So to have a chance to compete and set a record, or gain experience from watching the more senior swimmers in action and also trying out in your level of race, sign up on the entry sheets displayed on the club notice board. If you are unsure about the event you should swim in, talk to your coach in the next few days. Not late entries are being accepted.

Paralympic Trials Swim Ulster
Last Saturday in Bangor Leisure Centre Swim Ulster held trials for the Ulster Paralympic squad. Colm McAdam attended these trials and found the going tough but worth it. Colm has begun training with the club in October and has made great progress. He now knows the standard that is required and is making plans to achieve this level of fitness, skill and competence over the next few months. Well done Colm you an inspiration to all the swimmers, coaches and parents in the club.

Ulster Championships
This weekend Sliabh Beagh will have swimmers competing in the Ulster Open Championships in Lisburn. This is the premier gala in Ulster where the best swimmers of the region and further afield compete for honours, personal best times and experience. This year Peter O’Hara, Ciaran Hennessy, Jamie Sheridan, Shauna McGahon and Claragh McGahon will test themselves against the best in Ulster.

Peter and Ciaran will be joined by Ciaran O’Mordha and Caolan McGee in the 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay on Saturday. We wish them well and hope that they will return with a few good performances under their belts and the motivation to drive on for the big events in the summer.
