Club Notes – 16 January 2014

Forest Feast Aquasprint Gala.

The Sliabh Beagh AquaSprint squad swam to their first win of the season against Lecale Swim Club on Saturday January 11th in Monaghan Leisure Centre.  The league is being sponsored again this year by Forest Feast  who provide all of the swimmers with team t-shirts.  This gala saw a good drop in times for most of our swimmers.  The overall improvement from our first gala two months ago was evident with quick starts and fast races.  The coaches are very proud of the hard work from all of the swimmers, which can especially be seen in the strength of their relays. The final score was 187 to Lecale and 214 to Sliabh Beagh.   A big “thank you” goes out to all of the many parents who volunteered at the gala and supported the team.  We couldn’t do it without you!

Ulster Secondary Schools Competition.

This years Ulster Schools takes place in Ballymena on Saturday 18th January. Swimmers from all over Ulster will compete for a few coveted positions. Good luck to all our Sliabh Beagh swimmers who will be representing their school and the club.

Leinster Distance and Graded Gala
The coaches are delighted with the large entry to this gala, 37 swimmers over the two day gala is an excellent representation for the club.  For some this will be their first gala and an opportunity to put into practice what their have learned in their lessons. Although it is tempting to get carried away with wanting fast times, at this stage for the novice swimmer it is more important to execute the stroke correctly. Dana our coach will be on hand to give feedback to the swimmers after their race. Good luck to Deirbhile Coll, Alannah, Caoimhe and Caragh Leonard. Shauna and Clara Mc Gahon, Emer Sheridan, Nathen Shields, Connor and Matthew Comiskey, Cillian Mc Gahon, Jamie Sheridan. Eoghan Keenan. Also good luck to Allison Gorman, Olivia and Louise Gorman, Niamh lavelle, Emily Madden, Cliona Sheridan, Caolan and Lorcan Roberts, Leon and James Campbell and Geroid Coyle.  A special word of good luck to Katie Bowden, Ellen Mc Geough, Sheena Mc Kenna, Hazel Mc Morrow, Faolan Campbell, Ruadhan Curren and Daniel madden, who are competing in their first gala.
