Sliabh Beagh Swimmers show their strength at Monaghan Schools Triathlon.
On Thursday 7th April the second Monaghan Schools triathlon took place in Coral leisure. Schools from all across the county took part. This was a great opportunity for Sliabh Beagh swimmers to show off their skills with many of our swimmers taking part in the individual events and as part of the swimming leg of the relay. The Triathlon kicked off with 250M (10 lengths) of the Coral leisure swimming pool followed with a 10K cycle and a 5k run. For many of these young athletes this was their first time tackling this discipline which was a daunting task. The senior girls had a clean sweep with Sliabh Beagh taking first, second and third in this category. Emily Madden showed her Triathlon experience with smooth transitions and a comfortable lead in the senior girls. Shauna Mc Gahon was competing in a Triathlon for the first time and put in a strong performance coming second in her catagory and Emer Mc kenna a member of the senior squad came third. Allison Gorman also competing in a triathlon for the first came second in the junior girls. The senior boys section was won by Oran Mc Gee from Sliabh Beagh. Oran is also a member of the Muckno Tri Club.
Also well done to Colin Gorman, Leon Campbell, Connor Comiskey, James Campbell, Lui Shields, Faolan Campbell, Daniel Madden, Deirdre O Harte, Emma Mc Elvaney, Katie Bowden, Emer Sheridan, Ellen mc Geough and Arpitha Dhatchayani. Well done everyone!
