Sliabh Beagh Trio at Swim Ulster Masters
On Sunday the 17th of April three of our club swimmers competed in the Ulster Masters gala hosted by Newry swimming club. All swimmers were relatively happy with their performances on the day, leaving the meet with personal best times but knowing more work needed to be done.
First in the water was Jamie Sheridan (18-24) in the 200f/crawl improving his personal best by two seconds and winning the age group. Jamie also competed in the 100 b/fly and 50 f/c coming second in his age group and improving his personal best times. Jamie’s remaining three events were the 25 meter f/crawl dash and 200 b/fly taking second and achieving personal bests , but arguably saved his best swim of the day to last, breaking the minute barrier in the 100 f/crawl clocking a 59.56 – this was no mean feat, now he aims to lower that time even more. Well done Jamie!!!
Our second swimmer was club swim teacher, Marcin Tobias (35-39), who clocked 1.26.85 for the 100 br/stroke. He achieved a 4 second pb for the Breaststroke. He covered the 50m Freestyle in 30:65 and the 50 b/fly in 34.28. These were brilliant swims for Marcin. He is showing great example for the junior aqua-sprint swimmers he teaches and coaches. Great work Marcin!!!
Peter O’ Hara swam in the 100 b/fly winning it in a time of 1.00.13 and the 50 f/c, 25.60. He was second in the 100f/c, 55.60 and 50 b/fly 26.30. Good enough swims considering his welfare status of carrying a shoulder injury and having the flu.
Lastly, a big shout out is deserved for Newry swimming club and Swim Ulster who hosted the gala and managed the meet efficiently. All competitors and spectators enjoyed the day and would agree the pool is a fantastic facility.
