Free swimming lessons a great Success!

During the month of July for four (4) Wednesdays club swim teachers and coaches gave those who chose to attend some quality swim lessons.

The content was a bit different to what the participants were used to. It comprised primarily skills development – skills such as sculling in different planes, breathing skills, horizontal and longitudinal rotation, streamlining, treading water etc. These are core aquatic skills and without a god level of competency in these the swimmer will always struggle to be efficient.

Mastering these skills is time costly and consequently frequent attendance at practice is necessary. From a club and swimmer development perspective, we focused on these elements as well as some LTAD Fundamental Movement Skills.

We were very pleased with the commitment of all participants. We were pleased with the progress that made in this short sample session. We would hope that some will be interested enough to return in September and work on the swimming skills and progress through the club to the level that best suits their level of ambition.

The Club Secretary will be in touch with all who have attended the sessions in the coming week or so, to enquire on their interest in following up on their recent experience. For those who missed the classes in July, if you are interested in joining the club or making enquiries, they should contact the Club Secretary for information. Tel. No. 087 2909777.

WELL DONE BOYS

Oran O'CaolanCongratulations to Oran O’Caolan who recently took part in the Monaghan Leisure Complex Charity Triathlon for the Make A Wish Foundation.  Oran was the youngest competitor and had the quickest swim overall and raised the most through sponsorship.

Jamie & Fiona DoyleCongratulations to Jamie Sheridan who won a pair of Skins of his choice from SwimKit in the National Aquatic Centre, Dublin during the IAG Division 1 Championship in July. Jamie had entered SwimKit’s FB competition, which asked what Irish Swimmer Fiona Doyle’s QT was for her to qualify for the Olympics in Rio next year. He was the first person to answer correctly. Jamie also had the honour of meeting Fiona Doyle when she presented him with his brand new Speedo LZR Racer skins.
