A swarm of 930 swimmers descended on the National Aquatic Centre for five days of competition at the Irish age Group and Summer Open. This is the largest swim meet hosted by Swim Ireland each year, and sees swimmers competing from not only Ireland, but also the UK, Dubai and Hamburg to name a few.  These swimmers have worked hard all season to earn the right to swim in this competition having first to achieve qualifying times to enter. In the older age groups15 plus for the girls and 16 plus for the boys many national swimmers are competing, which further adds to the calibre of this event!  Sliabh Beagh were delighted and proud to have 11 swimmers compete at this level from our small club. All swimmers rose to the occasion and produced some superb swims; reaching seventeen finals, producing many Personal Best times and three National medals. Well done to Alannah Leonard, Shauna Mc Gahon, Caragh Leonard, Claragh Mc Gahon, Peter O’Hara, Nathan Shields, Colin Gorman, Ciaran Deasy, Leon Campbell and Eoghan Keenan. Many thanks to our hard working gala secretary Deirdre Comiskey for her diligence when completing entries. Thanks also, to Claire Sheridan, Club secretary for keeping everyone up to date on the progress of the gala and Beth Shields Team manager for her organisation of Jobs Rota.  A special word of thanks to Head Coach Eamon O Hara whose dedication to our swimmers progress has paid off in abundance in this competition. Also thanks to Ita O Hara and Noel Mc Gahon for their input throughout the year. Full report next week.
