Sliabh Beagh ASC Masters at the Celtic Masters meet -National Aquatic Centre

The Dublin clubs Aer Lingus and National Aquatic Club joined forces to host a Masters Meets on Sunday 6 Nov 2022. The meet was held in the National Aquatic Centre, Blanchardstown, Dublin.

This was a short course meet, that means the pool length was 25m.
This was the first Gala of the season and consequently there were very big number of swimmers attending from all over the country. The programme offered a wide range of events from 50m to 400m.  Between our team of swimmers, we entered almost all the
different events on the schedule.   We had ten swimmers entered, but due to unforeseen circumstances, nine swimmers
attended. We had Joe Shields, Carmel O'Hare, Thomas Neeson, Eithne Duffy, Peter Coyle, Eimear Mullen, Marcin Tobias, Brenda Healy and Marc Hearty.  The team swam in individual
and relay events.  Performances were very strong and learning, trying things out like tumble turns under pressure and not having a lot of rest between events, were big challenges.   Confidence was gained via improved times, picking up some medals, being up against some very experienced and competent swimmers, seeing some skills work out and being not fazed by swimming under pressure in this very intimidating and impressive national venue.

The following is the report of each swimmer and relay event.
For the women’s team there was gold for Carmel in the 400m Freestyle, and silver in the 100m IM and a bronze for Brenda in the 50m Butterfly.   Eithne got bronze in the 100m Breaststroke, 100m Freestyle, 50m Breaststroke and 100m IM while Eimear picked up a
bronze in the 50m Backstroke.   For the Men – silver for Marcin in the 100m Backstroke and bronze in the 100m Breaststroke
and silvers all round for Peter in the 50m Backstroke and 50m Breaststroke.   Marc got gold in the 100m Backstroke and silver in the 200m IM.  Joe got a bronze in the 100m IM and Thomas got bronze in the 200m Breaststroke.  In the relays there was a silver for the Women in the 200m Medley Relay for Eimear,  Brenda
Eithne and Carmel and bronze for the Men's 200m Medley Relay for Marcin, Marc, Peter and Joe. There was also a silver for the women’s 200m freestyle relay for Eimear, Brenda, Eithne and Carmel.

Well done everyone.   Keep up the good work and let those in attendance and those unable to go on this occasion, knuckle down and get ready for the next day’s outing.   Sunday was fun, exciting, challenging and very much worth the effort.  Onward and upwards everyone.

Thanks to Coach Eamon for attending with the team and for his encouragement and feedback to the swimmers.
