Well done to Shauna McGahon representing her college DCU and sisters Orla & Oisin Young representing QUB, who participated in the NUIG Invitational Gala in Galway last weekend. This gala was attended by swimmers from DCU, NUIG, QUB, UCD & UL.

It was great to see the girls participate at this gala, all former swimmers with Sliabh Beagh from a very young age in primary school right through secondary school and now onto 3rd level education. By the age of 13 one in two girls will have given up on sport completely. However, in Sliabh Beagh girls and boys are encouraged to continue swimming to relieve the pressures of their academic studies. Apart from the health benefits, swimming teaches children so many other life lessons. They learn time management, perseverance, discipline, goal setting, all while developing character and grit.

It is encouraging for the younger children in the club and indeed the parents & coaches to see the three girls continue on with their passion for swimming into 3rd level education and beyond.

Flag Day

The clubs annual Flag day takes place on Saturday  December 9th. A rota is on the Club notice board. Parents of all squads are asked to sign up for a slot to make this a very successful fund raising event.

Club Record Gala

This years Club Record Gala takes place on 23rd December in Coral Leisure. All swimmers must choose two strokes and put their name down for a relay team. Event list is on the Club Notice Board. Entries must be filled out by 14th December.
