This Long Course (50m gala) was held last weekend in Bangor on Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday. Sliabh Beagh had 16 swimmers in action over the weekend. Our swimmers swam in races from 50m to 1,500m.
PB’S were ever present and technical improvement was evident in considerable measure.
However, there is still room for improvement in areas such as turns, kick speed, underwater work and the embedding of better and more effective arm action skills.
The performance of all swimmers showed character, a willingness to have a go and the capacity to reflect critically on their feedback; to apply it in their next swim. But for real substantial improvement and progression, the changes have to be ongoing and fully embedded, through quality practice.
This gala and the gala in the NAC at the weekend are preparation galas for the Ulster Age Group Championships, which are at the end of March.
For the next number of weeks the volume at training will increase, the pool length will also vary and swimmers are expected to be focused, set daily training goals and improve all aspects of their racing performance, through improved technical application.
The swimmers from Sliabh Beagh are listed below. No names are being selected at this time for specific mention. Overall the coaches were very pleased and look forward to high quality work in the coming weeks.
Well done to Leon Campbell, Connor Comiskey, Matthew Comiskey, Ciaran Deasy, Allison Gorman, Colin Gorman, Eoghan Keenan, Emily Madden, Cillian Mc Gahon, Claragh Mc Gahon, Shauna Mc Gahon, Eimear Mc Kenna, Lorcan Roberts, Emer Sheridan, Jamie Sheridan, Nathan Shields.
