Swim Ulster Valentines Gala 15 – 17 February, Lisburn
Last weekend 15 Sliabh Beagh swimmers represented the club in this Ulster and National qualifying gala. All swimmers returned Personal Best times. We also picked numerous medals for being in the top 3 in the various age categories. However, we also picked up a few disqualifications for technical infringements. Hopefully the swimmers concerned will remember these errors and correct them in training in the coming weeks.
At this gala club swimmers swam in the 1500 and 800 Freestyle events. We also had swimmers enter the 400 IM. These are long and demanding events in a different way to the more routine but very fast 100 and 200 metre events. Generally excellent times were returned and credit must be given to the swimmers for their progress and also to the coaches for bringing them to this level of development. Hopefully it will continue and more people and faster times will follow.
The results for this gala will be posted on the club notice board later in the week.
Long Course 50m Pool training
Last week 20 club swimmers attended the Magherafelt 50m pool for a double training session. This consisted of a 2 x 2 hours training session. The morning session was from 10 – 12 noon while the afternoon session was from 2 to 4 pm. In between we had lunch and did a light gym session.
Generally everybody was delighted with the pool, session content and most importantly the performances. The gym session was fun as different swimmers were asked to count or sing or perform while doing the various stretches or exercises. We had German, French, Spanish, Irish dance, singing and the Periodic Table. Well done everyone.
Past and future events
Two club swimmers (Kate and Louis Madden, were competing in the Irish Modern Pentathlon last weekend and did PB’s in the swimming leg of the event. Another swimmer is competing in the Long Course Dave McCullough gala this weekend in Limerick. Good luck Alannah in this gala.
Good luck to Orla, as she with her school team mates, take on the might of Leinster Hurling – a Kilkenny school.
